I guess even though the featured singer of their most popular song was in the audience, The Chainsmokers really wanted to prove themselves as artists all on their own!
The pop duo took the Billboard Music Award’s stage for the first time tonight!
They performed their newest single Young with Drew Taggart on vocals and a lil bit of acoustic guitar and Alex Pall DJing and mixing. There was also a drummer going all in!
I think it’s safe to say most people were wanting a little bit of Closer with Halsey or Don’t Let Me Down featuring Daya, but we’ll take Young, no problem!
It started with an acoustic set feel, but by the end all of the red lights, the fire, and the sparks really punched up the show.
One of the most exciting parts of the performance was when Drew Taggart jumped off a table and the crowd went wild!
Tied with Drake, The Chainsmokers went into the night with a record breaking 22 nominations, and they’ve already taken home Top Hot 100 Song and Top Collaboration for their song Closer featuring Halsey.
In the early awards announcement they also took the awards for Top Dance/Electronic Artist and Dance/Electronic Song with Closer. So they kind of have the Dance/Electronic genre on lock right now!
We wanna know what you thought of their performance and all their wins! Let us know in the comments below.
