Camila Mendes and Lili Reinhart previously slammed a magazine for excessively Photoshopping their bodies and now they’re explaining why.
These Riverdale stars seriously deserve a round of applause.
Camila Mendes and Lili Reinhart celebrated International Women’s Day earlier this month by speaking out against a major magazine that Photoshopped them severely so that their bodies appeared slimmer. The Riverdale actresses could’ve let the overly edited pictures in Cosmopolitan Philippines slide, but instead they wrote messages letting their fans know what happened and encouraging them not to let these false images affect the way they view themselves in real life.
Lili said on Instagram in part QUOTE “Would like to encourage celebrities and public figures to stop Photoshopping their waists/noses/arms/legs in their photos. It’s only encouraging an unrealistic body image. It’s adding to the problem.”
Lili did an interview with E! News at PaleyFest this weekend and explained why she decided to speak out about the Photoshopping.
She explained QUOTE “I just felt the need to speak up about it because I feel like I talk about everything else very openly. As women and even men we struggle with our bodies every day when we look in the mirror and especially when you’re put in the spotlight and people critique your outfits, your skin, your body, your hair, whatever. I’m still…it’s a battle for me every day to accept what I am and my flaws and know that you know I can’t change certain parts about me and that’s fine.”
Camila, who has been open about battling an eating disorder in the past, says the thought of people viewing her with a body that isn’t hers is why she decided to say something, too.
She added QUOTE “I just didn’t want other people to think that was my body. That’s just a personal thing too because sometimes you hear about people who aren’t comfortable showing their bodies on screen and so they have somebody else be their body double and stuff…no matter what I would never feel comfortable with that even if their body is like 10 times skinnier or more fit, whatever. It doesn’t matter, my body is my body and I want people to know that this face goes with this body.”
Can we just take a minute to applaud both Camila and Lili? There’s so much Photoshopping that goes on in Hollywood it’s almost impossible to tell what’s real and what’s not anymore. I think their decision to speak out and let their fans know that the images published in Como Philippines were heavily edited was the right one and after hearing why they chose to do so I honestly love them even more. What do you think about Camila and Lili fighting back against heavy editing in the entertainment industry? Do you think more celebs should do the same? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
