Lili Reinhart and Camila Mendes spent International Women’s Day slamming a magazine who Photoshopped them to appear skinnier.
The actresses say they felt disturbed and disgusted by the magazine’s actions.
Yesterday International Women’s Day, but instead of celebrating the special day, Lili Reinhart and Camila Mendes are speaking out against a major magazine that Photoshopped each of them severely so that their bodies appear slimmer.
The Riverdale actresses are both featured in the March issue of Cosmopolitan Philippines, which should be a huge accomplishment. But rather than simply repurposing the pictures that were originally taken for the February issue of the U.S. mag, the overseas version noticeably cut off several inches from their waists.
When Lili noticed what happened, she took to Instagram to send a powerful message about self-love and body positivity by writing QUOTE “Camila and I have worked incredibly hard to feel confident and comfortable in the bodies that we have. It’s an everyday battle, sometimes. And to see our bodies become so distorted in an editing process is a perfect example of the obstacles we have to overcome. So we cannot stop fighting. Our battle has only just begun. We are f*cking powerful, beautiful, and strong… we aren’t going to hide behind Photoshop to confirm to beauty standards.”
The 21-year-old then tagged Cosmo Philippines and said it was sad that they felt the need to slim her down.
She continued QUOTE “Camila and I are f*cking beautiful. As is. And you can’t ‘fix’ us. So, like every other day, women… go kick some a**. You are being heard. You are strong and sensational. And I would like to thank the OG @cosmopolitan for keeping our waists as they are in their magazines. Also would like to encourage celebrities and public figures to stop Photoshopping their waists/noses/arms/legs in their photos. It’s only encouraging an unrealistic body image. It’s adding to the problem.”
Camila, who’s been open about battling an eating disorder in the past, also penned a note on IG explaining how the pair felt “disrespected & disturbed” by the altered pics.
She said QUOTE “We prefer to see our bodies the way they actually are. I’m not interested in having a slimmer waist. I’m more than satisfied with the one that I already have.”

You tell ‘em, ladies! So many celebrities have spoken out about the unrealistic nature of what we see in magazines and even though it’s not okay that Lili and Camila had to be body-shamed in this manner, it’s awesome that they’re both speaking out and letting people know that all bodies are beautiful. What do you think of the Photoshop fail? Are you surprised that the magazine published those altered images? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below and then click here to watch us become a hip hop dance crew in the latest episode of Get Jacked.
