'Love, Simon' Wins "Choice Movie Comedy" at 2018 Teen Choice Awards

Are you surprised?! Probably not. ‘Love, Simon’ wins choice comedy movie at the 2018 Teen Choice Awards!
I laughed as hard as I cried watching this film. I mean, it totally could’ve won best drama. Just saying.
The 2018 Teen Choice Awards went down this Sunday in Los Angeles, CA and all your favorite Gen-Z stars were there supporting each other, taking home those iconic surfboards, dancing through all the live performances, but most importantly, honoring some of the best music, movies and TV shows by teens. The film ‘Love, Simon’ was nominated for Best Comedy film along with Daddy’s Home 2, I Feel Pretty, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Overboard, and Pitch Perfect 3. Yeah, hard year to pick your favorite comedy. Picking between Amy Schumer, Anna Faris, Anna Kendrick and then a coming of age film about coming out in 2018 is hard. But you did it. You cast your ballots and picked your fave and ‘Love, Simon’ took the win which is a huge statement of support for gay teens everywhere. Troye Sivan who wrote a song for the movie’s soundtrack actually had the pleasure of announcing them as the winners. Though first, he gave this very touching speech about this being the year that teens are at the forefront of powerful, social change. After his inspiring speech, they played a clip of the film where all the straight kids come out as hetero to their parents, which is… the funniest part of the movie.
So good. And then they won and the cast went onstage to accept their Surfboard and thank the fans.
Now this wasn’t just a win for the cast. It’s obviously a huge win for the LGBTQ community. Particularly young people still struggling to come out. Hopefully you feel a little more supported with this film winning best Comedy, though also, anyone find it weird that of all possible categories… it won as a COMEDY?! I cried so hard watching it.
