Madonna SPEAKS OUT After VMA Backlash Over Aretha Franklin Tribute

Last night at the VMAs, Madonna walked out to pay tribute to the late Aretha Franklin who passed away last week from pancreatic cancer AND present the video of the year award to Camila Cabello. Madonna has since been receiving a lot of backlash because people feel like she went on a long tangent about herself instead of actually paying tribute to Aretha. Many of us here at Clevver watched it live and were left very confused when Madonna kept going on and on about herself, but hey maybe you had to be in the room to get it. Well, Madonna has since spoke out about all the backlash and released a statement giving us a little more insight into the situation saying QUOTE: “I was asked to present video of the year by MTV! And then they asked me to share any anecdotes I had in my career connected to Aretha Franklin! I shared a part of my journey and thanked Aretha for inspiring me along the way. I did not intend to do a tribute to her! That would be impossible in 2 minutes with all the noise and tinsel of an award show. I could never do her justice in this context or environment. She continued by saying, QUOTE “Unfortunately most people have short attention spans, and are so quick to judge. I love Aretha! R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
