Melania Trump is under scrutiny this morning after blatantly plagiarizing Michelle Obama’s speech last night during the Republican National Convention.
Melania Trump gave a speech last night except it wasn’t her speech.
Last night at the Republican National Convention, Melania Trump delivered a speech that raised eyebrows and commenced some serious Déjà vu because there was a chunk of the speech that sounded almost identical to the speech First Lady Michelle Obama gave back in 2008. Watch this:
After hearing the speech, the internet exploded with plagiarism accusations that led Donald Trump’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort to address the issue saying QUOTE - "To think that she would do something like that knowing how scrutinized her speech was going to be last night is just really absurd. There's no cribbing of Michelle Obama's speech. These were common words and values. She cares about her family. To think that she'd be cribbing Michelle Obama's words is crazy." Trump’s campaign then released an official statement regarding the speech saying QUOTE - "In writing her beautiful speech, Melania's team of writers took notes on her life's inspirations, and in some instances included fragments that reflected her own thinking. Melania's immigrant experience and love for America shone through in her speech, which made it such a success.” Before delivering the speech, Melania told Matt Lauer that she actually wrote the speech herself with as little help as possible. But that didn’t stop Twitter from making a complete mockery of the situation. Jesse Williams started the hashtag, “FamousMelaniaTrumpQuotes” and it quickly caught on. People poked fun at the plagiarism scandal by posting famous quotes and then crediting them to Melania to point out how blatant it was that Melania’s speech was not her own. Jesse Williams attributed MLK’s famous “I have a dream” quote to Melania while Anna Kendrick credited Melania for Samuel Jackson’s famous “I had it with these muthafuckin’ snakes on this mothafuckin’ plane” quote. Other’s chimed in with the hashtag along with more famous quotes including, “Four score and seven years ago,” “Opps I did it again,” and “Who you gonna call? ghostbusters” just to name a few. So what lesson can we take away from all of this? Don’t plagiarize because if you do, you’ll probably get kicked out of school and Twitter will chew you out. But what are your thoughts on Melania’s speech? Do you think it was plagiarized or just really similar to Michelle Obama’s?
