Gleeks your girl Melissa Benoist is probably MORE than gleeful today, that's because we have confirmation from THR that she was just cast as Kara Zor-El also known as Super girl in a new CBS series!!
I am so excited about this news that I can barely stand it, but alas I will do my best to break this down so you can get excited too. Melissa, who I fell in love with on Glee and who did a stellar job playing Miles Teller's love interest in last year's critically acclaimed Whiplash, will be suiting up as super girl aka Kara Zor-El, a character who also just happens to be SUPERMAN'S cousin. No big deal.
A little back story: Like Superman, Kara was a Kryptonian who managed to escape the planet before it was destroyed. Now on earth, and living as a "normal" citizen, Kara has to come to terms with the fact that she has some serious superheroine talent that she's wasting which she will decide to use it to help save the world. Girl power indeed.
So apparently beat out several solid actresses for the job, most notably The Vampire Diaries and The Original's star Claire Holt. But perhaps it was Melissa's performance as Wonder Woman that solidified the deal?
Orrrrrr...maybe it was something else. Whatever it was we're SUPER excited and think that Melissa is totally the girl for the job. Although, we haven't heard whether or not she will get a makeover treatment to look like the blonde hair, blue eyed heroine but something tells us that Melissa would look gorgeous no matter what.
So, what do you think of Melissa playing Supergirl!? Chat all about it in the comments, and since we're on the topic of superheroes you can click right here to see our list of the movies we can't wait to see this year and there are a lot of hero picks over there! Thanks for watching. Im Erin Robinson. See you soon.
