We know by this point not to categorize Miley into one specific gender, but now she’s taking on the media for its part in segregation.
Miley Cyrus has already blasted the idea of two, (and ONLY two) genders, and now the singer, who is openly gender fluid, or ‘pansexual’, is putting gender-based television shows on full blast. While sitting down with Variety Magazine, giving an example of gender segregation, saying QUOTE, “For example, there’s a show called Supergirl. I think having a show with a gender attached to it is weird. One, it’s a woman on that f—ing billboard — it’s not a little girl. Two, what if you’re a little boy who wants to be a girl so bad that this makes you feel bad? I think having a title like Supergirl doesn’t give the power that people think it does.”
Miley also noted that, “A lot of it could be changed if we had a female president. That would give us a subconscious boost. I think people will have to realize they’re looking really dated.”
Based on her own personal experiences and relationships, Miley once again has stated her sexual orientation as ‘pansexual’ meaning not identifying as female or male. She recalls growing up confused about gender norms saying, “My whole life, I didn’t understand my own gender and my own sexuality. I always hated the word bisexual, because that’s even putting me in a box. I don’t ever think about someone being a boy or someone being a girl …
She admitted that she began to see things more clearly by fifth or sixth grade, also revealing that QUOTE, “My first relationship in my life was with a chick.” Although Miley is currently dating Liam Hemsworth, she understands that people may not see her as neutral as she feels, but that she does not classify herself as straight or gay.
After making many visits to the LGBTQ center, she recalls hearing another pansexual human tell their story and relating to that person more than any other person in her life, saying, “I think that was the first gender-neutral person I’d ever met. Once I understood my gender more, which was unassigned, then I understood my sexuality more.”
Points taken! Well this sure opened my eyes, and Miley does make some very logical statements, but I’m curious to know what your take is on a gender-based society… do you think it’s separating the sexes even more?
