Miley Cyrus reveals she was underpaid on Hannah Montana in a candid new interview.
Miley Cyrus is getting realer than ever in her latest cover issue for Elle magazine, even talking about how Disney might have actually stiffed her on her own show!
In the interview with Elle, Miley opened up about growing up in the spotlight, which all started with her starring role in Hannah Montana. She explained to the mag QUOTE, “I did not grow up spoiled in any way. I just wanted to be on TV. I mean, at one point—they'll probably kill me for saying it—I was probably the least paid person on my cast because I didn't know any better. I was just like, 'I can be on Disney! Yeah, I want to do it!”
Well we can’t say we blame her for caring more about having her own show than how much she was getting paid for it. But despite her dreams coming true at such an early age, Miley’s admitted that growing up in that environment definitely came with other kinds of costs. Especially when it comes to the paparazzi capturing every awkward stage of your teen years. Miley said of that aspect of her fame QUOTE, “Paparazzi always made me really uncomfortable. You're growing up and you look weird sometimes. My zits were all crazy; I've gone through some hair trauma...That's how I started sticking out my tongue in pictures. Because I hate everyone being so serious.” Being followed by the paps as a teen does sound pretty traumatizing--especially on a bad hair or skin day.
Luckily for Miley, despite her parents not initially knowing how to navigate the level of fame she achieved at such a young age, they learned how kids can be taken advantage of in the industry pretty quickly. Miley gives her mom Tish a lot of credit for making moves to protect her from getting screwed over like other child stars, saying QUOTE, “My mom started understanding how many people take advantage of a child, so she hired smart people to protect me in that way. I'm happy that when I was younger, people protected me and put me in a position where I can now control my music.” Well even though we all know Miley can’t be tamed, we’re glad she had a support system to at least reign the industry people around her in. And whatever mistakes she and her parents made when Miley was younger, she’s now a coach on the voice and she’s engaged to Liam Hemsworth, so we’re gonna say that she’s doing pretty okay nowadays...
