The world seemed to come to a complete halt back in 2013, the night Miley Cyrus jumped out of a giant teddy bear and began twerking on Robin Thicke during her VMA performance. Viewers were left completely speechless, and many wondered if Miley had officially gone off the deep end.
BUT it’s been almost five years since the infamous performance, and with a new album, a rekindled relationship and some self-reflecting, Miley reveals she’s only gained from the experience. In her interview with Wonderland, she reflected on the performance, admitting that not only was culture changed, but her life and career were changed forever.
She said QUOTE, “It inspired me to use my platform for something much bigger. If the world is going to focus on me and what I am doing, then what I am doing should be impactful and it should be great.”
So why not impact the world when it’s staring you straight in the face, wondering when the next questionable move will be, right? Miley said that all the press she gained from that night QUOTE, “…encouraged me to be more involved, which then led me to start my own organization, which is the Happy Hippie Foundation. It’s dedicated to fighting injustice for vulnerable populations.”
Miley graces the cover of Wonderland decked out in a pink silk slip dress and poses for many different shots by famed photographer Ellen von Unwerth. Miley stays true to her quirky self in many of the shots, which is one thing she loves about being a musician, rather than an actor.
She talked about the idea of acting again, unsure of whether she’d be willing to focus on being one character for months at a time, saying, “My attention span doesn’t love the idea of focusing and being on one project for so many months, especially being a character and not getting to be myself for that amount of time.”
Just like within her music, Miley admitted she gets really deep into the characters she plays, saying QUOTE, “So then it becomes hard for me to relate — even to my family and friends — I’m so deep into that character. So for right now, I am so content with where I am, being someone else doesn’t sound that fun to me.”
We love you JUST the way you are, Miley – twerking and all!
