Miley Cyrus recalls feeling sexualized as a young performer in a revealing new interview
Miley Cyrus is reinventing herself once again
From Hannah Montana to the incredibly talented young woman we know and love today, Miley Cyrus has been through more than a few little changes, and her loyal fans have been along for the ride- twerking and all.
Now, Miley Cyrus is opening up about her latest reinvention. In a telling interview with Harpers Bazaar, the Malibu singer reveals that the girl from the Bangerz album is gone.
"I feel really kind of far away from that person. I just want people to see that this is who I am right now.”
Cyrus, who’s latest hit, Malibu, has already reintroduced her as a much different Miley than the one we knew last year, but for the 24 year old pop star, it all comes down to truly getting to know yourself. Miley told the mag QUOTE "I think I'm just figuring out who I am at such a rapid pace that it's hard for me to keep up with myself."
And many child entertainers will agree with Miley, but as she looks back on her youth, Miley definitely remembers the pressure she felt from just about everybody, saying QUOTE “There's so much I don't remember about being a child entertainer because it was so much to keep in my brain. It's like anything when you are in it. I didn't realize how much pressure I was under and how that shaped me until, like, this year."
And as Miley entered phase 2, AKA Bangerz album Miley, the pressure continued and the judgemet began. Miley recalls QUOTE
"People were so shocked by some of the things that I did. It should be more shocking that when I was 11 or 12, I was put in full hair and makeup, a wig, and told what to wear by a group of mostly older men.”
And for a young, female, performer, being bossed around by men is definitely something that affected Miley in a big way, saying QUOTE “Beyoncé said, 'Girls run the world,' and that was an important thing to say because I think subconsciously we are beaten down to believe that it isn't true our whole lives. It's no wonder that a lot of people lose their way and lose who they really are because they always have people telling them who to be."
And as the Bangerz image became more of a ‘thing’ for Miley, the expectation to keep it up heightened, and Miley reveals that after a while, she couldn’t keep up, saying QUOT “It became something that was expected of me. I didn't want to show up to photo shoots and be the girl who would get my tits out and stick out my tongue. In the beginning, it was kind of like saying, 'F--k you. Girls should be able to have this freedom or whatever, But it got to a point where I did feel sexualized."
And now, Miley is really ready to keep the past in the past and work on her future self, and on being the most authentic role model to people all over the world, saying “How can I f--king be the role model I'm supposed to be? Yeah, I just said f--king role model. Who gives a s--t? Because I got my tits out before doesn't make me less of a role model. I think I show people that they can be themselves. I also think something that has been important for me, in this next little, like, transition phase of my career is that I don't give a f--k about being cool. I just want to be myself."
Well, if there’s anything we can totally rely on, it’s that Miley is always going to tell it how it is, and that’s exactly why we love her.
