Nicki Minaj became Hero of the Internet last night when she offered to pay off a number of fans’ college tuitions on Twitter..
It all started when Nicki announced a contest to her Twitter account, asking fans to upload videos of themselves singing her new single, “Regret in Your Tears”, for a chance to win a trip to meet her at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas. But things took an unexpected an amazing turn when one fan tweeted back QUOTE, “Well you wanna pay for my tuition?” To which Nicki surprisingly shot back, “Show me straight A's that I can verify w/ur school and I'll pay it. Who wants to join THAT contest?!?! Dead serious. Shld I set it up?”
And things blew up from there. Dozens of Nicki’s fans raced to upload screengrabs of their transcripts, student loans, and tuition fees, and Nicki responded to a number of them. One fan tweeted QUOTE, “1k would be more than enough for my 3 summer classes help me Nic @NICKIMINAJ” to which the rapper replied QUOTE, "That's it? I'll send it tmrw. dm me ur bank info babe. Next!" She gave similar replies to other fans requesting $400 to $6,000, to help pay for everything from books, to classes, to room and board and meal plans. As long as the students had proof of their grades and their bills, Nicki replied with a simple “Got u” “Of course” or “Done”, and asked them to DM their info and bank details.
Overall, Nicki had pledged to pay for more than $25,000 in various college tuition fees before finally tweeting out QUOTE, “Ok u guys. It's been fun. Let me make those payments tmrw then see if I have any money left. I'll do some more in a month or 2”. The tweet got over 20,000 retweets and over 60,000 likes, which Nicki can interpret as a sign that the internet was more than impressed with her being so generous to her hard-working fans! Now if this can inspire all the other celebs on twitter to do something similar, we might be able to put a nice big dent in this insane student debt problem we have!
