This week Nicki Minaj released a lyric video for her song 'Only' and due to it's Nazi theme and lyrics it got me thinking: How do chart topping musicians get away with spreading these kinds of messages? Like have you heard these lyrics? They're VERY disturbing!! Guys, we gotta talk this out - WTF!?
I am not one to be nit picky when it comes to artists expressing themselves, because I totally respect shock value and pushing boundaries....but where do we draw the line between art and just offensive?
So all week everyone in the media has been talking about the video for it's Nazi like imagery which i have to say made me feel really uncomfortable. Now Nicki did take to twitter to apologize for the video's imagery.
But what no one has really addressed this week are the supper offensive lyrics, which shocked me quite a bit. This is just something I can't get behind!
On to the WTF lesson of the day: Sticks and stones may break your bones, but remember words have an affect too - so let's use them wisly!
