“The Light is Coming” is Ari’s second single from her upcoming album, Sweetener, which is set to be released on August 17th. Ari once again teamed up with one of her favorite collaborators, Nicki Minaj, for the punchy, electro-pop dance track. The ladies released the song last night alongside a video for their current Reebok campaign and we’ve had it on repeat ever since. Check it out:
The video kicks off with Nicki looking fly AF in a dark and eerie forest setting, but as spooky as the location looks to us Nicki is a full-on BOSS as she raps the intro to the song.
And we already knew that Ari was a magical creature, in the video our girl has the power to be in more than a few places at once, and it’s a trip.
And a super cool and super random fact that one fan pointed out on Twitter, is that the audio sample of a man yelling “You wouldn’t let anybody speak!” used throughout the song appears to be from a CNN archive clip of a man shouting at Senator Arlen Specter at a Pennsylvania Town Hall meeting in 2009.
And that SAME Town Hall clip is also used in Pharrell’s track “Lemon”, which isn’t as much as a coincidence as you might think. Pharrell actually co-wrote and produced “The Light is Coming”, and one fan pointed out that the sample of a guy yelling “Wait a minute” in “Lemon” comes from the same Town Hall clip as the one for this track.
Okay now I wanna turn it over to you guys what do YOU think of Ari and Nicki’s video for “The Light is Coming” -- are you loving this collab or did you prefer “Bed”?
