Stranger Things plunges into the all new dimension of comic books.
That’s right, your favorite Netflix show is getting the comic treatment.
As fans patiently wait for Stranger Things to wrap filming on season three, the Netflix series has hit us with a brand new place to look for Easter eggs. According to Entertainment Weekly, a Stranger Things comic book series will be released this Fall. Comic publisher Dark Horse will be dropping a four-issue mini series inspired by the show written by Jody Houser, illustrated by Stefano Martino, inked by Keith Champagne, colored by Lauren Affe, and lettered by Nate Piekos.
But instead of focusing on the mysterious town of Hawkins, Indiana the comics will take us deeper into Will Byer’s time stuck in the Upside Down and explain what happened to him during the events of season one. Yup, there’s a whole lot more where that Christmas light communication came from. The first-look cover variants released give us a hint at what the retro comics will look like, and they are as delightfully horrifying as we could have hoped for. The first comic will drop September 26th and run for four issues. And it appears this is just the beginning for the TV-show themed comics. Dark Horse told Entertainment Weekly that this comic partnership is a “multi-year publishing line” that will explore more of the Stranger Things world and characters.
This comic book news comes on the heels of other Stranger Things verticals including action figure toys, a video game, and a book series. The good news is that we have a LOT of ways to channel our obsession and the bad news is that we’ll probably have to wait until 2019 for the season three premiere. What do you guys think of all these new dimensions for Stranger Things? Is a comic book too much OR a perfect extension of the show?
