The internet basically detonated last night when Taylor Swift’s single “Look What You Made Me Do” dropped, but the teaser for the upcoming music video has Swifties literally fighting for air.
One thing’s for certain – no more miss nice Swift.
The Old Taylor may be forever dead, but if there’s one thing that hasn’t changed, it’s that the New Taylor still knows how to generate one kick-ass music video. After last night’s release of Taylor’s first single from the Reputation era called “Look What You Made Me Do”, she and notorious music video director Joseph Kahn also revealed via social media that they would be teasing the music video for the track this morning on Good Morning America… so if the song is any indication of the revenge, karma, and all around bad-assery that’s about to go down, then the music video is sure to do it justice. Take a look:
The clip may have only been 15 seconds of footage, but it was enough to get the people going, so let’s break this down. We see that following a car accident, Taylor is playing the whole snake nickname up as she sits on a gold throne with snake-inspired jewelry. She also is seen decked out in diamonds while biting a chunk of diamonds, and then we see another version of Taylor in all black fishnets lined by her backup dancers, so I don’t know about you guys but I’m getting full on “Blank Space” meets “Bad Blood” vibes here.
Being the well-planned strategist Taylor also is, you might’ve also noticed at the end of the teaser, her announcement to drop the full video during Sunday’s MTV VMAs, which proves once again that the girl has impeccable timing.
And the final message we leave you with came at the very end of the teaser with a full-on warning simply stating, “Brace for impact.” However, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this ‘impact’ we’re talking about does not mean that Taylor will also be performing come Sunday night’s show. Although the music video will debut that night, the VMAs exec producer Jesse Ignjatovic slammed rumors that she’d also be taking the stage, telling People Magazine QUOTE, “She has been on the show many times and has performed with a new album coming, but not this time. I definitely wish she was coming on and performing.”
But seeing that Taylor is the queen of unpredictability, and the VMAs are, well… the VMAs, there’s still a slim chance she’ll put truth to the Katy Perry duet rumors and perform alongside her, let alone make a red carpet debut considering her song “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” with Zayn is up for a VMA. So, hey, never say never!
But right now I want to know all your thoughts on everything that went down the last 12 hours, including your thoughts on the music video teaser and your predictions for Sunday, so get to talking down here in the comments, and after that, click right over here to see what the consensus is on who Taylor shaded in her song this time. Thanks for hanging out with me here on Clevver News, I’m your host Emile Ennis Jr. and I’ll see you next time.
