You can thank Kelly Clarkson for the fact that Taylor is rerecording her old masters…actually, scratch that, you can thank country mega-star Reba McEntire.
What’s up guys it’s Sussan Mourad here with Clevver News. So do you remember a couple months ago when Kelly gave Taylor advice on rerecording her old songs so that way she can actually own her masters?
In July she said “@Taylor Swift just a thought. You should go in and rerecord all the songs that you don’t own the masters on exactly how you did them, but put brand new art and some kind of incentive so fans will no longer buy the old versions. I’d buy all of the new versions just to prove a point”
Well turns out she didn’t come up with this plan by herself, she got it from her mother-in-law, Reba McIntyre
Last night she appeared on ‘The Tonight Show’ starring Jimmy Fallon to talk about her new daytime talk show – The Kelly Clarkson Show- which premieres today on NBC.
In her interview with Jimmy, the topic of Taylor came up – as it often does
And Kelly revealed that she actually spoke to Taylor shortly after she tweeted her support out.
About 10 years ago, Reba also re-recorded her masters when she changed record labels
“She recut all her music. Did the same musicians, same everything,” Kelly said in the interview “that’s where I got the idea”
Right around the time that Reba rerecorded, her and Kelly went on their “2 Worlds 2 Voices” tour.
And if you didn’t know, Reba’s step-son Brandon married Kelly back in 2013 – well after she gained fame as the first winner of American Idol
And Reba isn’t the only woman to re-record her old masters. Just last year, Jojo of “Leave (Get Out)” fame did the same thing
She did a 2018 version of her first two albums that were “held hostage” by her record label – meaning none of her old songs were able to play on streaming services
But now Kelly is standing up for Taylor
Kelly doesn’t really care about her own songs though...
She told Jimmy that she only writes about 50 percent of her music, so she doesn’t mind if other people are making money off of her songs once she retires.
And of course she’s not trying to pick sides or cause drama
And people certainly ARE here for Kelly.
Someone said “Kelly not only is truly talented but also more importantly she has a kind heart”
Pulled
Another said “Kelly really is a kind hearted person. A collab song with Taylor please”
Pulled
So, thank you, Kelly, for sticking up for Taylor and encouraging an ending we all want – new old Taylor Swift music.
Apparently The Rock left his honeymoon EARLY to be a guest on her first episode coming out today.
So that’s it for me guys. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. Are you here for a Taylor/Kelly collab? Are you going to tune into Kelly’s new show?
