Tons of celebs participated in the women’s march this weekend, but those who couldn’t still made sure to shout out their support on social media.
Kim Kardashian took to Instagram and shared an image of a poster from the march that had a quote from Hillary Clinton’s concession speech on it, which she captioned along with QUOTE, “So proud of the women & men who stood up for what is right & are determined to make this world a better place for our children. Here's to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.”
And sister Kendall--who was in Paris while the marches occurred--followed suit by sharing the same image on her Instagram account, along with the words QUOTE, “I wish I could have been a part of this amazing history. Beyond proud.”
Gigi Hadid also commented on how proud she was of the women who marched with a series of tweets. One read QUOTE, “my biggest hope is that today inspires many more acts of togetherness and LOVE, to stand up for everyone”, and in another she simply wrong “Proud to be alive today” followed by the hashtag #GirlsJustWannaHaveFundamentalRights.
And while all the celebs who tweeted and Instagrammed support for the women’s march were met with some degree of online trolls and haters, no one suffered more backlash for their social shout out to the protest quite like Taylor Swift. After tweeting QUOTE, “So much love, pride, and respect for those who marched. I'm proud to be a woman today, and every day. #WomensMarch”, Taylor got dragged on Twitter for not actually attending one of the marches. While many pointed out that other celeb feminists like Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus practiced what they preached by marching, some of Taylor’s most loyal fans came to her defense and praised her for commenting on the protest at all.
Meanwhile Jennifer Lawrence, who couldn’t attend the march because she’s currently filming in Budapest, opted to write a lengthy Facebook post to share her support for the movement, which read in part QUOTE, “Do not give this administration a "chance" to do the terrible things it wants to do. LGBT and environmental information has already been removed from the White House website. Fight for equality, fight for women to have control over their bodies. Thank you to all of those who are taking action!” She followed her post with “PS: Donald Trump, you’re a bad dancer”. #MicDrop.
