So as Kim Kardashian continues to rack in millions in part by selling her naked body, Taylor Swift is dominating music charts and bringing in about $50 million a year for a total net worth of $200 mil at the tender age of 24 having sold nothing more than her voice, her charm, and a healthy sprinkle of terrible dance moves. “I’m sure there will be things that my grandkids make fun of me for no matter what,” she told Time magazine in their latest edition on which Taylor graces the cover, aptly titled “The Power of Taylor Swift.” “But I’d really rather it be, ‘Look how awkward your dancing was in the ‘Shake It Off’ video! You look so weird, Grandma!’ rather than ‘Grandma, is that your nipple?’” In the interview Taylor got very real about not really being able to find peers or mentors who were succeeding in music in the same way that she wants to succeed. In other words- Miley, Riri and Lady Gaga may be selling records and concert seats, but they’re also selling tits and ass and those are just a few things that Taylor says are NOT for sale on her. “We’re taught to find examples for the way we want our lives to wind up. But I can’t find anyone, really, who’s had the same career trajectory as mine.” Not sure that I agree with that point, but so who does Taylor admire? Surprising answer: Law & Order: SVU actress Mariska Hargitay, whose character Olivia Benson, by the way, is who taylor named one of her cats after. “She’s one of the highest paid actresses [or] actors in general, women or men on television, and she’s been playing this very strong female character for, what, 15 years now?” she said. “I just struggle to find a woman in music who hasn’t been completely picked apart by the media, or scrutinized and criticized for aging, or criticized for fighting aging—it just seems to be much more difficult to be a woman in music and to grow older.” Absolutely. It’s like, we were finally awarded with the right to vote but we’re still fighting for the right to age with dignity. Now Tay DOES have girl friends that she geeks out with on a regular basis, like Selena Gomez and Lorde. So what does she have to say about her inner girl circle? “I surround myself with smart, beautiful, passionate, driven, ambitious women. Other women who are killing it should motivate you, thrill you, challenge you and inspire you rather than threaten you and make you feel like you’re immediately being compared to them.” That’s right, Taylor!
