So unless you’re Patrick Star you know Taylor Swift is on the cover of GQ and in her interview she spills some pretty personal information. We’ve got all the highlights!
It’s a lengthy article, so let me give it to you in an elevator pitch. Taylor talked about how she completely avoided the internet at one point, rejection, the importance of having self-awareness, her friendships, and details on who Bad Blood is really about.
Talk about getting drunk on jealousy, this GQ interviewer literally got to spend a day with Taylor Swift, ask her about her life, be a witness to her on the phone with Justin effing Timberlake, and scrolled through pictures on her phone. Sweepstakes goals. For the record, the phone call was JT calling Taylor to say he wanted to perform “Mirrors” with her on her 1989 tour. Needless to say she freaked out.
But getting to the goods, when asked to spill the beans on Bad Blood, Taylor said QUOTE - “I never said anything that would point a finger in the specific direction of one specific person, and I can sleep at night knowing that. I knew the song would be assigned to a person, and the easiest mark was someone who I didn’t want to be labeled with this song. It was not a song about heartbreak. It was about the loss of friendship. It was important to show that losing friendships can be just as damaging to a person as losing a romantic relationship.”
On another touchy subject, Taylor opened up about her infamous VMA moment with Kanye after being fairly silent about it in the past. Taylor confessed that – “When the crowd started booing, I thought they were booing because they also believed I didn’t deserve the award. That’s where the hurt came from. I went backstage and cried, and then I had to stop crying and perform five minutes later. But that was the most happenstance thing to ever happen in my career. And to now be in a place where Kanye and I respect each other—that’s one of my favorite things that has happened in my career.”
And ok, although Taylor and Kanye may not be necessarily biffles now, they’ve come a long way! When asked about her current friendships and how the public has identified a female trend in her squad, Taylor said QUOTE – “I honestly think my lack of female friendships in high school and middle school is why my female friendships are so important now. Because I always wanted them. It was just hard for me to have friends.”
And I know it sounds crazy that Taylor would ever have a hard time making friends, but she told a story about when she was in grade school and this one time when she had invited a group of girls to go to the mall with her but all of them had a different reason why they couldn’t go. And at first she thought nothing of it, but then when she went to the mall with her mom, she saw all of the girls she called laughing together in Victoria’s secret. Taylor recounted the situation saying QUOTE - “I just remember my mom looking at me and saying, We’re going to King of Prussia Mall. Which is the big, big mall in Pennsylvania, 45 minutes away...
