Find out the surprising reason why Twitter BANNED these popular meme accounts.
If you’re a “tweet decker” you better run because Captain Twitter is coming for you.
Twitter just suspended a number of accounts that have millions of followers between them, because the accounts were reportedly stealing people’s tweets and content without giving credit, and conspiring amongst themselves to to share tweets in an effort to make each other’s tweets go viral. They even had paying customers who they would help go viral, too.
The accounts suspended were @Dory, @GirlPosts, @SoDamnTrue, @commonwhitegiri, @teenagernotes, @memeprovider, and others. These accounts are known as “tweetdeckers”, because they gather private Tweetdeck groups to QUOTE, “plot out their plans to manufacture virality”.
Is it me or does that description make them sound like a group of cartoon super villains?
All this plotting is, of course, against Twitter’s rules, which have very strict spam policies. These policies basically say that users can’t steal or duplicated someone else’s tweets or content, and they can’t “artificially inflate” account interactions. They also can’t accept payment from third party interests looking for help to make THEIR posts go viral.
Translation: You can’t cheat, lie, or steal on Twitter.
Of course, all of these suspended accounts broke those rules, so let it be a lesson for any other tweet deckers who have been scamming followers, stealing content, and profiting from third parties on the platform.
Because as we all know, cartoon super villains always lose.
While Twitter still has a long way to go as far as “cleaning up” the issues on its platform, these suspended accounts show that the social media app is finally making an effort to address some big problem areas.
