The internet went into full panic mode yesterday when popular video app Vine’s creator hinted that Vine 2.0 is underway, and it looks like Christmas just came a few weeks early.
You know what they say – out with the old, in with… the same?
That’s right Viners – the app that left us far too quickly nearly a year ago, is amping up to make its big return… whether you asked for it or not. Just yesterday, Vine’s cofounder Dom Hoffman got all cryptic on Twitter, sharing a simple photo of Vine’s previous mint green logo in its original color and font, but this time it featured a “V2”.
And if you hadn’t noticed from Hoffman’s tweet last week, this week’s tweet serves as a follow-up to his previous tweet that revealed he was going to be working on a follow-up to Vine. But unlike the original app, which was bought by Twitter for $30 million in 2012 before it even launched, Hofmann says this product will be self-funded as an “outside project.”
Naturally, Vine 2.0 has raised many questions throughout the interwebs, like will the videos be longer, will the formatting be different, will there be photos, and most importantly, WILL VINE’S ORIGINAL CAST RETURN?! So leave it to Twitter to share their thoughts on the matter – one user predicted its new time limit, writing, “Vine 2 will allow a video length of 6.66 seconds because it will be the death of us all.” Others took to Twitter to voice who NOT to tell about Vine’s comeback, saying, “People not to tell about vine 2 – 1. Jake Paul 2. Lele Pons 3. Logan Paul 4. King Bach 5. Curtis Lepore 6. Nash Grier”
Further details about the app currently remain a mystery, but it seems like Hoffman won’t leave us hanging for too much longer assuming V2 has been in the works for quite some time. But as many fans have pointed out, this is the last and final attempt at getting it right, so really, no pressure or anything…
But we’ve got high hopes for the second go-around, and who knows, maybe the next big star will come out of this – the possibilities are endless. So we’ve heard from Twitter, but right now, I’m curious to know your thoughts on Vine 2.0 making its grand return, so get to talking down here in the comments, and after that be sure to click right over here to see why big corporation CEOs are calling YouTube a toxic waste dump… a little harsh, Gretch.
