If anything productive comes out of all this Kim, Kanye, and Taylor drama, it has to be that Kim seriously just taught Taylor a lesson when it comes to posting on social media.
Let me break it down for ya. Kim uses social media on a regular basis. Whether it be releasing a new app, taking selfies, or sharing blog posts, she knows what to do and how to do it. So when deciding to release the video footage of Taylor and Kanye’s call, Kim executed her plan in a highly intelligent way.
First off, if you’re obsessed with Snapchat like me, @JackieIadonisi, then you know it’s a total struggle to get your friends from Instagram and Twitter to follow you over on Snapchat. You can only really search people by name or number. So it’s safe to assume that Kim K probably faces those same challenges like the rest of us.
Kim could have aired the secret video footage on Keeping Up with The Kardashian’s for a ratings increase, but instead she was focusing on more long-term goals. She didn’t just ask people to follow her on Snapchat, she gave them a reason to. Waiting SPECIFICALLY for the episode where she talks about the Taylor Swift drama, she tweeted to her 46.8 million followers, “do you guys follow me on snap chat? U really should” with a wink face.
Kim only posted one Snapchat story, and basically broke the internet again while gaining followers at the same time. Now let’s talk about Taylor. Her response was to post THE SAME screenshot of her “Notes” app to ALL OF HER SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS. This did not get a good reaction.
Completely ignoring how each platform works, Instagram-visual, Twitter-textual… Taylor’s message sort of got lost. People stopped focusing on her words, and instead more on the way she posted it. Fans even started creating memes making fun of how it was written in landscape mode. Come on now.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Taylor. She’s my girl, but she could have totally used this as an opportunity to help build her brand. What if she created her own Snapchat and instead of posting a screenshot, she posted a video saying how she felt? She would have gained thousands of followers who might not have even thought about adding her in the first place. Plus, it’s almost September, and it could have been a major boost for that rumored album release.
Alright guys, tell me how you feel about all this. If you were in Taylor’s spot, how would you have responded to the drama?
