If you have an autograph from Taylor Swift, consider yourself a rare breed!
Taylor Swift is getting her journalist on and opening up about the music industry and the death of the autograph age. It's not that the star is refusing to sign memorabilia for fans these days or anything, it's just that Swifties simply don't ask! The singer just wrote in her column for the Wall Street Journal, QUOTE "I haven't been asked for an autograph since the invention of the iPhone with a front-facing camera." I love that she specifies FRONT-facing camera.
I gotta say that I'm on the same page as TS fans!! With Instagram as the top social network used by today's teens, a selfie with Taylor Swift is probably one of the most coveted celebrity selfies out there. Taylor opens up other topics too in her column, from the importance of creating a bond with fans and the drive to be inventive to the game changing power of social media, genre blending, and the beauty of every music lover having some artist who they can relate to. Taylor stresses that although it is close to impossible for a musician to escape the pitfalls of illegal downloads, QUOTE "Music is art, and art is important and rare. Important, rare things are valuable. Valuable things should be paid for." Swift goes on to talk about the dream bond that all artists hope to establish with their fans. She describes this bond as "the one my father has with the Beach Boys and the one my mother has with Carly Simon." You know, an artist who you admire and appreciate who becomes part of your family's soundtrack for generations to come. T-Swift goes on to stress the drive she has to keep being inventive with her music production in the midst of a society where outlets like Youtube have made it so fans know what to expect at a concert before even leaving their bedrooms. And speaking of the World Wide Web -- yeah you haven't heard that one in awhile - Taylor writes about the mega effect social media has had on determining the fate of entertainers -- all based on popularity. She makes a honest point in saying, QUOTE "In the future, artists will get record deals because they have fans—not the other way around." It's sad, but unfortunately for upcoming artists, it's a reality. So if people want to take a selfie with you, I guess you're doing something right.
