Adele had to cut short her massive 15 month tour because her vocal cords are damaged.
The 29-year old British singer hinted at fans that the tour for 25 would be her last, so having to cancel the last two performances was especially devastating.
In a heartfelt social media post, Adele apologized to her fans for having to cancel the last two shows on the tour, explaining that QUOTE “on medical advice, I am simply unable to perform over the weekend. I’m already maxed out on steroids and aids for my voice. It’s highly unlikely I’d make it through the set and I simply can’t crumble in front of you all and walk out on you in that way.”
The “Hello” singer had struggled through the first two shows and Wembley stadium, and felt she had to push a lot harder than she normally did. That’s why she went to see the doctor.
This isn’t the first time Adele has had trouble with her vocal cords. Back in 2011, she had to cancel two months of tour dates because of the laser microsurgery she had to stop a recurrent vocal cord hemorrhage. I mean, yeah, it’s gotta be strenuous to belt those lyrics out – she is one hundred percent giving it her all.
Adele was obviously devastated with having to cancel the last two shows of her tour, saying in the post QUOTE “I have done 121 shows and I have 2 left. 2 left!!! And they are two gigantic shows! Who the fuck cancels a show at Wembley Stadium!? To not complete this milestone in my career is something I’m struggling to get my head around.” Both of the shows had sold out the 98000 seat stadium.
Just yesterday,a vocal coach who worked with Sam Smith said that adele has a “slapdash attitude about the way to warms up or uses her voice, or that she’s not being given the correct advice. He admonished her for pushing through her Wednesday show, saying that pushing it when you’re struggling is “the worst thing you can do”.
She informed fans that they would be able to get a refund if the shows couldn’t be rescheduled, and we could really feel her sadness through the post as she signed off with QUOTE “I’m sorry. I love you I’m so sorry. Please forgive me x”
And although you might have thought that Adele would have to face major ire from her fans due to the cancelled shows, instead they showed up in droves to Wembley Stadium anyway to show their support and love for their idol. One fan gushed “Your couldn’t perform for us, so we performed for you! We love you so much!” #singforadele started trending, and videos of hundreds of Adele’s fans singing together surfaced.
It’s uncertain if in fact the dates will be rescheduled and if Adele will ever go on tour again. Adele’s agent pointed out that the superstar had “been on the road for quite some time now and that it will be nice for her to have a little break and some family time with her four-year old son so she can think about what she wants.
Well, what do you think she’ll do? Will the shows be rescheduled or has Adele sung her last note on tour?
