TIME just named the 25 most influential people on the internet
And some might surprise you
In addition to TIME magazine’s most influential people issue, they also release a separate list of their top 25 most influential people on the internet.
The magazine evaluates contenders based on their global impact on social media and their overall ability to drive news. The results of this year’s list was, well, interesting to say the least.
Of course, BTS made the list. Their ARMY is one of the most powerful global fanbases out there, and the group has more than 50 million followers across English-language social media platforms. The group has spent over 89 weeks atop Billboard’s Social 50 chart and won Top Social Artist at the Billboard Music Awards last month for the second year in a row. So if anyone deserved a spot on this list, it was BTS.
Logan and Jake Paul also scored a spot on the list. Love them or hate them, the YouTubers have certainly generated their fair share of news this year. When Logan filmed a dead body in the Japanese suicide forest and featured the footage in a vlog, he was flung into the spotlight, along with his brother, Jake. They became a part of the national news cycle for weeks, with many demanding Logan’s channel be deleted. Logan faced temporary punishment from YouTube, but he still came out relatively unscathed by in the incident.
Rihanna also made the list this year. The singer had one of the most successful makeup brand launches in recent years, and as if that wasn’t enough, Rih decided to launch her own lingerie line as well. And who could forget when she made Snapchat’s value plummet instantly after she publicly denounced the app? Rihanna has a massive social influence, so it’s no surprise that she made the list.
There are many more featured on the list, including Kanye West, Kylie Jenner, HQ quizmaster Scott Rogowsky and even the serial Instagram commenter, DiaryofaFitMommyOfficial. To see all of the people who made the list, head over to the TIME website.
