Every year Time Magazine honors 100 of the most influential people from musicians and actors to politicians and activists.
The most significant artists on the list this year are Rihanna, Kesha, Cardi B, Shawn Mendes, Kanye West, and Jennifer Lopez.
Something extra dope about the list is the dedicated write ups by other artists. For instance Adele wrote about Rihanna saying in part QUOTE, “I actually can’t remember the first time I met Rihanna; I was probably numb from the shock of it... She has designed and conquered an entire lane of her own. The innovative and groundbreaking world of Rihanna that no one else will ever be safe in and get away with copying. She makes her own rules and bends ours.”
And Taraji P. Henson wrote a paragraph for Cardi B. QUOTE, “The first time I went on her Instagram page, she was so raw, coming at you, like, whoa! And she talked openly about being a former stripper. She recorded “Bodak Yellow” because it’s what she loved. Now she’s the biggest thing in music. And even with all those eyeballs watching, she’s still unapologetically herself. Cardi B’s here to stay, baby, and I’m happy to be a witness.”
As for actors, breakout stars of the past year Tiffany Haddish, Issa Rae, and Millie Bobby Brown made the list.
Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul wrote about the first time he met Millie when he and his wife suggested an ice cream shop to meet up at. He said QUOTE, “I had thought, Oh, she’s 12, let’s get ice cream. No. She may have been 12 in years, but her spirit and mind were timeless. Maybe that’s why she’s such an extraordinary actor. She somehow understands the human experience as if she has lived it for a thousand years.”
Of course, Donald Trump graced the list, but thankfully so did the founder of the #MeToo movement, Tarana Burke and the Parkland shooting survivors.
So were you surprised by any of the people who made the list? Who didn’t make it that you wish had? Let us know in the comments below and then click right over here to see yesterday’s Daily Hollywood Rundown. I’m your host Ava Gordy, thanks for watching Clevver and I’ll see you next time.
