Casey Affleck Wins Best Actor in a Drama For 'Manchester By The Sea' At 2017 Golden Globes

Casey Affleck just won his first-ever Golden Globe!
And although he’s got some major acting chops when it comes to drama, Casey’s speech had the entire audience laughing
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has spoken, awarding Casey Affleck with the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an actor in a motion picture, drama for his role in Manchester by the Sea.
Beating out Joel Edgerton, Andrew Garfield, Viggo Mortensen, and Denzel Washington, tonight’s win awards Casey with his first ever Golden Globe. Clearly humbled by the accolade, Casey began his acceptance speech saying QUOTE “Oh, this is really weird.”
After thanking the film’s writer and director, Kenneth Lonergan, who impressively scored two noms himself, Casey offers a special thank you to his onscreen counterpart and fellow Golden Globes nominee, Michelle Williams.
The younger Affleck then poked a little light-heard fun at Matt Damon, who was originally set to star in the film, before turning down the role and insisting Casey star in his place.
And being a true family man, Casey Affleck also thanked his children saying QUOTE “It’s my kids who give me permission to do this because they have got the strength of character to keep at bay all of the noise that sometimes surrounds people who live publicly,” before adding QUOTE “And to their mom who gave me just about every good acting idea I’ve ever had, thank you very much, I love you.”
