The stars react to Jennifer Lawrence's op-ed titled "Why Do These Dudes Make More Than Me?"
If you haven’t yet read JLaw’s essay- stop what you’re doing. Open up another tab in your browser and read that next. But right now, let’s see what Hollywood’s biggest names are saying about Jennifer’s piece.
In her new essay published on Lena Dunham’s site called LENNY, Jennifer Lawrence says QUOTE “When the Sony hack happened and I found out how much less I was being paid than the lucky people with dicks, I didn't get mad at Sony. I got mad at myself… [for failing as a negotiator]…. I didn’t want to seem 'difficult' or 'spoiled.' …Until I saw the payroll on the Internet and realized every man I was working with definitely didn’t worry about being 'difficult' or 'spoiled.'"
The first person to fully back JLaw’s plight here is actually one of the very co-stars who has repeatedly gotten paid millions more than her- Bradley Cooper. QUOTE "One thing I could say is that's interesting because if you think that you only deserve a certain amount and that's not correct, it's about changing that mindset and sticking up for yourself the way that Sienna [Miller] did.” Sienna is also raising her fist in solidarity with Ms. Lawrence. QUOTE "I walked away from a play that I wanted to do because I was offered less than half of what the other man was offered and it was just the two of us. [I did] what we have to start doing, unfortunately, at the expense of our creative dreams." "It's not about the money, it's the principle." Gwyneth Paltrow also expressed support. QUOTE "I think it was very brave of her to articulate it like that… It's fascinating because part of the issue is that women don't feel entitled to talk about a gender gap." On twitter many famous ladies retweeted JLaw’s feminist essay, including Krysten Ritter who added: “(This takes balls. Kudos to Jlaw. She's right) Jennifer Lawrence is done trying to be likable.” Jessica Chastain tweeted “Yessssssss! Get it girl” And Elizabeth Banks tweeted “I love Jennifer Lawrence.” Now more than ever, right? Thank you JLaw for always saying what we’re all thinking but are too afraid to say. And just for the record, Emma Watson also shared support tweeting, "O Jennifer Lawrence I love you so" and tweeting this line from Lawrence's op-ed. "I’m over trying to find the “adorable” way to state my opinion". She of all people understands the value of Jen’s words. In September of last year, the Harry Potter star delivered a powerful speech on the floor of the UN to launch a new gender equality initiative- HeforShe- advocating for total equality between men and women.
And if you still don’t believe that gender inequality is REAL, I’ll leave you with this quote from Daniel Craig, aka 007. QUOTE "Women are responsible for two-thirds of the work done worldwide, yet earn only 10 percent of the total income and own 1 percent of the property… So, are we equals? Until the answer is yes, we must never stop asking." There ya go. What do yall think of this struggle between women and men in Hollywood and beyond? Comment below, tweetme @Miriamisa then change gears completely and watch our new show called Cheat Day, all about the weirdest pizza toppings that make actually change your life. I’m Miriam Isa and have a wonderful day!
