Trump’s announcement that the US would be withdrawing from the Paris Climate Deal sent shockwaves through social media, and celebs are speaking out.
This week President Trump announced that the US would be one of only three countries, including Syria and Nicaragua, to not join in on the carbon reduction plan introduced during Obama’s presidency. The news has upset and shocked millions, because efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and thus the effects of climate change have rightly become a top priority for countries and citizens all over the globe. And while I could rant about how awful this decision is all day, I’ll let some of our favorite celebs take the reigns on this one…
Actor Josh Gad Tweeted his reaction, writing QUOTE, “Our children and grandchildren have all just been handed a dark future because of a man who tweets at 3:30am & ‘doesn’t trust’ science”. Funnyman Ben Stiller also had sobering thoughts on the matter, tweeting QUOTE, “What a huge step backward. We should be leading the world on this.”
Leonardo DiCaprio, while also devastated by the news, encouraged fans that now is not the time to give up, sharing simply QUOTE, “Today, our planet suffered. It’s more important than ever to take action”.
Chelsea Handler was also clearly angered about the news, writing QUOTE, “Yeah, who cares about climate change? Only every single person with a child. Republicans in congress need to end this childish mayhem.”
Meanwhile Mark Ruffalo expressed his deep frustration and fear, tweeting QUOTE, “If this is true he will have the death of whole nations on his hands. People will be looking to the USA for retribution for what they lose”.
And actor Kal Penn, who worked for the Obama administration in the encouraged his followers that activism is the best response to the news, Tweeting QUOTE “Don’t just get mad at the dummies, do something about it!” Oh trust me Kal, I intend to!
