Frances McDormand and Gary Oldman just gained some shiny new hardware, aaaand we can’t imagine their wins slowing down anytime soon, considering both recipients have now come out on top at both The Golden Globes and at tonight’s SAG Awards. Frances McDormand received her second award of the year for her portrayal of Mildred Hayes, a mother who’s determined to solve the case of her daughter’s mysterious murder, in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri. Frances’ performances has clearly resonated with so many people and critics, and I gotta agree- she’s extremely deserving of her win tonight. Plus, any opportunity to see her strut to the stage is so worth it.
Told you. In her acceptance speech, Frances gave all credit to the writer and director of Thee Billboards, Martin McDonagh, before making a powerful, yet still hilarious statement about awarding young, up and coming actors.
Bye. She’s just the best.
Celebrating alongside her tonight is Gary Oldman who accepted his SAG award for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. And he may be celebrating even more than Frances, because believe it or not, tonight marked his very first SAG award ever. As Gary took to the stage, he immediately became emotional, recognizing just how talented his fellow nominees are with a perfect quote by Winston Churchill.
He went on to say QUOTE “You have given enormously tonight and I am so deeply, deeply honored and proud to receive this magnificent award.” Something about Gary Oldman crying makes me want to cry. Is that just me?
