The People’s Choice Awards 2016 kicked off on a high note (literally) as the evening’s host Jane Lynch channeled her inner Gleek and gifted us all with the sound of music.
Welcome back to trophy life you guys, and as if tonight’s PCAs haven’t made you want to shut up and dance enough, well, Jane Lynch’s epic opening performance just might do the trick…
Oh how we missed those Glee days… except for the fact that Jane Lynch never sang this much during her Glee run, which she even jokingly admitted during her PCA opening monologue. She kicked off the first award show of the year with a bang, switching up the lyrics to Walk The Moon’s hit single “Shut Up And Dance” and instead, singing, “Stand Up And Choose With Me”. Take a look:
Not only did the PCAs kick off the 2016 award show season, but Jane also gave notice to the fact that these awards are voted strictly by the fans. However, the medley quickly transitioned into what Jane thought to be the most important choice of all…
Because what award show would be complete without a ‘whip and nae nae’ reference, amiright?! But the song had to come to an end at some point. Jane finally began her actual monologue saying that there was one award she knew for a fact she’d take home, and after her opening stint, I’d have to agree…
She also gave notice to the fact that all of YOU GUYS voted a whopping 200 million times for tonight’s categories in music, movies and television and other gems of the sort, like being responsible for the infamous pizza rat’s 9+ million views and for making the man bun a thing last year, so of course we’d put the fate of an entire award show in the hands of the fans!
