Jennifer Lawrence apologizes for scratching her butt with sacred Hawaiian rocks...
J-Law recently told a funny story about scratching her butt with some rocks, but in the process the actress offended some native Hawaiian people...
It all started when Jennifer went on the Graham Norton Show and told an anecdote about using some sacred Hawaiian stones to itch a scratch on her rear end while filming “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” on the island. She joked that while once itching her butt on the sacred stones, she accidentally knocked one of them over a mountain and almost killed a crew member. She explained to a laughing audience that while the native Hawaiian people believed the stone fell due to a curse related to the sacred rocks, SHE was the REAL curse that caused the catastrophe...
While her story made the Graham Norton audience laugh at the time, her joking about the sacred stones was no laughing matter to the native Hawaiian people or those on the internet who felt her story was culturally insensitive.
And though Jen usually stays away from social media, after the backlash her story caused, she took to Facebook to post an apology to the internet and the Hawaiian people who were offended by the anecdote, writing QUOTE, “I meant absolutely no disrespect to the Hawaiian people. I really thought that I was being self deprecating about the fact that I was "the curse", but I understand the way it was perceived was not funny and I apologize if I offended anyone.”
While we get that Jen was being good ol’ Jen and thought she was just having a laugh at her own expense, it’s definitely understandable why her remarks were perceived as insensitive, especially to the native Hawaiian people. So let’s hope that Jen has learned her lesson, and that those who were offended by her story and actions can take her apology in stride.
