Justin Bieber approves of Shawn Mendes, meanwhile Shawn admits he wants to move past the Bieber comparisons...
Justin Bieber may not have known who Shawn Mendes was year ago, but now he’s become such a fan he’s even helping to promote Shawn’s album.
Bieber has come a long way from his infamous "Who's Shawn Mendes?" question during a radio interview a year ago, because he just tweeted out his support for Mendes’ new album, “Illuminate”.
The Biebs released a series of tweets praising the young Canadian singer by saying his voice QUOTE, "Makes me smile. Truly a gift to be able to move people's emotions through songs! So proud of you brother! Great album!"
Shawn enthusiastically tweeted back his gratitude to Justin for the shout out, saying QUOTE, “Ah man! Thank you SO much! Truly thank you!!” How cute is that? Also, there’s nothing like an endorsement from Justin Bieber to triple your album sales, so Shawn has a lot to be thankful for.
But while Shawn is grateful to have Biebs’s stamp of approval, the constant comparisons between him and the “Sorry” singer...not so much. In a recent interview with People magazine, Shawn humbly explained why he’s ready to move past the comparisons, explaining QUOTE, “I think he’s great. I really looked up to him. He was a huge role model growing up...I just think I’ve grown up and have my own thing. I’m my own musician.” Yes, yes you are, Shawn and an amazing one at that! Have you guys heard his new song “Mercy”?! Ah-may-zing!
As for his new album, “Illuminate”, Shawn described how he hopes to introduce his generation into a style of music they’re not necessarily that familiar with, saying QUOTE, “I hope it opens up my generation’s eyes to a new style of music, to an older, bluesier kind of vibe...The whole world is gonna see me differently.” He really could not be any cuter. And as long as he stays away from wearing baggy 90’s clothes at his shows and dating Selena Gomez for any length of time, we’re sure those Justin comparisons will gradually fade away for good.
