Unfortunately there’s a lot of pressure to maintain a certain figure if you’re a pop star.
Kelly Clarkson rose to fame when she won the inaugural season of American Idol in 2002 and blessed us with huge hits like a Moment Like This & Since You Been Gone. It really seemed like Kelly had it all after winning the competition-show since Kelly has sold over 36 million singles worldwide, and has had over 100 number ones on the billboard charts.
Kelly’s fame has come with a big price however. In a recent interview with British magazine Attitude Kelly opened up about all the pressure she got to stay thin as an artist. She remembers she was pressured to lose weight so she could be as skinny as her fellow pop stars which at the time included Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Kelly told the publication QUOTE “When I was really skinny, I wanted to kill myself. I was miserable, like inside and out, for four years of my life. But no one cared because aesthetically you make sense.” She goes on the say “I thought the only way out was quitting.” And described her time working with Clive Davis’ RCA Records as “a very dark time” in her career.
Earlier this month Kelly told Variety Clive Davis made her cry when he called her song “Because of You” shitty. She says "I was told that was a shitty song because it didn't rhyme," "A group of men thought it was OK to sit around a young woman and bully her. I was told I should shut up and sing."
Kelly mentions she eventually pulled herself out of the negativity and reclaimed her body back. She says I was around some really negative people, and I got out of it because I had a lot of great people there, too. It was a case of turning around, facing them and walking toward the light.
We’re so proud of Kelly for speaking out and being her true self. She is much happier under a new label Atlantic Records and She it to date one of the most successful artists to come out of the American idol Franchise alongside Carrie Underwood Kelly’s new album Meaning of Life is just days away and set to release on October 27th.
