Like the true advocate she is, Lauren Jauregui sat down with Vulkan magazine and expressed her thoughts on women’s freedom to express their sexuality. Lauren addressed the fact that critics have suggested that Fifth Harmony’s sexy side undermines their feminist message. She debunked this telling the magazine QUOTE - "We’ve reached millions of people all over the world who watch our interviews and listen to the message beyond the sexualization, which is to love yourself first and to understand your worth. A woman embracing her sexuality is something that shouldn’t be taboo." Lauren also spoke about Trump saying QUOTE - "He’s a trained celebrity who understands how to manipulate people for profit; he uses these things to promote himself. I’m actually a huge fan of changing every single 'anti-Trump' sentiment to 'pro-human rights' because they are synonymous." Lauren has spoken out about the fact that a lot of times, people find it irritating when celebrities weigh in on important matters like politics because they feel that entertainers should stick to entertaining, but Lauren says that her platform as a public figure gives her even more incentive to speak out about the issues saying QUOTE - "Societies have been conditioned to believe that entertainers are just that, but I refuse to be put into the box of a puppet. I will continue to voice my concerns and knowledge about what is happening right now for anyone who needs this to feel stronger."
Just a couple of days ago she posted a lengthy statement on instagram calling out writer’s rooms for their lack of female representation. She wrote - “Dear male pop writers, and a&r’s, I have a challenge for you. We are all aware that misogyny runs rampant in the music business, right? And ya’ll are open minded folks, right? Ok, so here is my challenge. Don’t put a session together or write a song for a female artist without a female writer in the room. Besides the fact that a bunch of middle aged men writing sex/long songs for young women is kinda creepy and sending the wrong lyrical messages to young people everywhere, it will also make the songs better. It will make the content more relatable and real, which means more people will like it. Not only will it give opportunities to the brilliant women who deserve them, but the songs will reach new levels. Who’s with me?!”
