Miley Cyrus returned to SNL on Saturday and I have one word for you BIZARRE. Bring on the tears, the glitter, the flowers, and the hair extensions!
I just watched 3 of Miley Cyrus' Performances on SNL and I'm trying to make sense of them all..please help me.
Perfomance Number One started of with a unexpected introduction by Hillary Clinton where she announced Miley Cyrus where she was joined by her Dead Petz collaborators the Flaming Lips who were all dressed in animal costumes for a striking take on "Karen Don't Be Sad." Miley was draped in blonde hair and flowers to cover her lady parts. I enjoyed this performance but it was the second one that caught me off guard
Call me crazy, but am I the only one who thinks it is odd to devote a whole song to dead pets? While I want to be sensitive about the topic because who isn't sad after a pet passes away but I have to admit I'm confused about the execution.
Miley Cyrus got really emotional while singing her closing ballad on her album Miley Cyrus and her dead pets entitled The Twinkle Song. But Miley was again covered in Blonde hairs that were braided and dreaded with flowers and butterflies hidden between the strands that seemed to have migrated over to the piano and where the hair gave birth to three heart shaped photographs of her deceased pets.
Miley killed the song and delivered vocals that give chill and even broke down into tears singing the lyrics
And I had a dream / I was being chased by a monster/ Maybe they were aliens . But I wasn't scared 'cause you were there / And I had a dream / You took karate / That's when you said you loved me / You loved me / What does it mean? /What does it all mean?"
Good question Miley what does it all mean. WHile i commend her for being an artist that is innovative and she does things out of the box but I have to be real and say the performance left me confused. WIth the lyrics and the blonde hair take over its hard for me to connect
On a brighter note her monologue performance was definitely entertaining. She wore a colorful dress and cap made of fake flowers, Cyrus sang a beautiful version of Frank Sinatra's "My Way" as cast members appeared dressed as people who have stirred controversy or made headlines over the past few months like Rachel Dolezal, Josh Duggar and Lenny Kravitz’s junk just to name a few.
Following her SNL visit, Cyrus revealed that she and the Flaming Lips would hit the road together for a limited six-date club tour where they would perform their Dead Petz material.
