Neyo and Jessica Alba brought the world to tears when they dedicated a very special song to young people who’ve been intimately affected by America’s gun violence in what we can all agree was a sobering but moving moment at the 2016 Teen Choice Awards. Today's episode of Clevver News Feed is brought to you by T-Mobile. Keep up with the freshest pop culture news with T-mobile.
It’s 2016 and this is what the world’s come to. Even at the Teen Choice Awards of all places we’re having to talk about gun violence. Hope celebs wore their water proof mascara tonight.
The awards ceremony got real somber real quick when Jessica Alba walked on stage with 10 teens and introduced them as the family members of loved ones who died in recent gun violence.
She introduced one of them as the big brother of a 6 year old boy who lost his life in New Town. She proceeded to introduce each of the guests on stage and show a pic of their mom, their dad, their sibling who’s died in San Bernadino, in Dallas, in Orlando, one of them was in crutches from her injuries at the Orlando nightclub where she lost her cousin, and the introductions ended with a boy who’d lost his dad to a recent high profile police officer shooting - the son of Alton Sterling. After the introductions she asked us, “What’s going on?” Cue the music and Neyo who out of nowhere delivered this emotional rendition of the hit song by the late Marvin Gaye.
So powerful! Thank you TCAs for using the show to bring attention to this issue! Granted- who was emotionally prepared for this?! It’s the Teen Choice Awards! It’s usual so bubble gum-ish and light and silly. But damn was it heart wrenching to see this teens on stage and then hear Neyo sing the soul out of that song as pics of all those murdered victims with their family members were being projected behind him. And also the song What’s Going On was Marvin Gaye’s biggest hit, and if you don’t know Marvin Gaye was murdered by HIS father who shot Marvin fatally with his gun. AN emotional climax to the otherwise very happy show. Are you guys glad they added this dark moment to the TCAs? Did you find it beautiful, tear jerking, inappropriate? Let me know. I’ve got strong opinions about this but I want to hear yours so comment below or tweet me @Miriamisa then click here to make fun of the shit show that are the 2016 presidential elections with this hilarious skit from the TCAs about Hillary Clinton VS Donald Trump. I’m Miriam Isa, please subscribe and thanks for watching!
