Depriving us all from a verse like Nicki’s from Monster would be a CRIME.
Nicki took to her instagram to commemorate ‘Monster,’ Kanye West’s hit off his 2010 album, My Beautiful, Dark, Twisted Fantasy. The song, which featured both Jay-Z and Nicki Minaj has inevitably become arguably one of the best tracks off of that entire record. Nicki was just taking off when Monster was gifted to the world, and it really helped showcase her natural RAP QUEEN skills, so to think that we almost missed out on her verse… well, it’s just too hard to imagine.
To honor 7 years since it’s release, Nicki posted her one of a kind verse along with a little story about how the track was almost completely cut before it’s release, simply because Kanye just wasn’t sure he really wanted to keep it.
Nicki wrote QUOTE “Kanye called me to tell me Jay put a verse on this song & that he was still deciding if he would put it on his album. Haha. It was like an hour long call where I tried to convince him to let the song stay on his album. He felt this verse would end up being the talk of the album. I said: YOU’RE KANYE WEST!!!”
He just needed a little reassurance, because ultimately, Kanye made the right decision, aaaand now 7 years later, we still know all of the words. Am I right?
Nicki also thanked Kanye for inspiring her to embrace that signature Nicki rap voice that we all know and love adding QUOTE “Kanye, thank you for being the genius you are. You always put others first. I fought u every step of the way but it worked out. (He wanted me to add more of that growling monster voice and I felt it was over kill.) He wouldn’t give in. In the end, maybe he was right.”
And then she shocked us revealing that Blac Chyna was actually her stunt double QUOTE “due to her a$$ets.” AND it was none other than Kanye’s girlfriend at the time, Ms. Amber Rose, who introduced Kanye to Nicki and as Nicki says QUOTE “the rest is history.”
So much history behind a song that almost never went mainstream. Hmm. We should probably thank Kanye too.
