Sabrina the teenage witch is officially flying her broomstick over Riverdale.
The Riverdale universe is expanding and we’re dusting off our spell books.
When we first found out that the Archie gang and Sabrina the Teenage Witch technically lived in the same universe, we were both confused and excited. It didn’t take long for rumors of a crossover or a new tv show spin-off to spread, and the Riverdale cast and creatives even joined in on the fun.
The showrunner, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, has brought up Sabrina more times than we can count and even Archie himself, AKA KJ Apa, has mentioned that Sabrina will come into play maybe even as early as this current season!
It was first announced that The CW was reportedly developing The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina back in September as a companion series to Riverdale. We didn’t know much about it except that it would be a dark coming-of-age story that was an adaption of the Archie Comics of the same name. Fans have voiced their opinions on which celebs should star on the show ranging from Dove Cameron to Selena Gomez, but nothing has been officially confirmed about the series…. Until now.
While some of our favorite shows got the ax from Netflix over the weekend, other shows were brought into existence. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the streaming service picked up the now untitled Sabrina show for TWO 10-episode seasons. The show is set to be filmed back-to-back next year and writers for the show will apparently start writing episodes this week!
We know what you’re thinking, because Sabrina will be on Netflix does that mean no crossover episodes? Thankfully there is still hope for Archie and Sabrina to meet face-to-face.
Riverdale showrunner Roberto wrote the original script for The CW’s adaptation of the show and is set to be an executive producer for the Netflix series. He won’t be the only Riverdale creative double-dipping, directors Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will also help bring Sabrina to life.
We seriously cannot wait to learn more about the series and find out who will be the new face of our favorite teenage witch.
Are you excited about Netflix picking up the show and who do you want to see portray Sabrina? Let us know in the comments below! I’m Miriam Isa, thanks for tuning in.
