Selena Gomez STARRING In Riverdale Spin-Off About Sabrina The Teenage Witch?

Selena Gomez once proved to the world that she was well-equipped to take on the world of wizardry all while simultaneously conquering her teen years, but many fans are now convinced that she may be back to take on a whole new world of witchcraft.
This time around, reports are stating that Selena is set to take on the iconic role of Sabrina Spellman from the popular ‘90s sitcom Sabrina the Teenage Witch, after news first broke that The CW is working on a “darker” take of the series. And for anyone without background knowledge of the history of Sabrina, originally played by Melissa Joan Hart, the series also stems from the same Archie Comics universe as a few characters you might’ve heard about – do Jughead, Betty, Archie, or Veronica ring a bell? That’s right, the worlds in which Riverdale and Sabrina hale from completely collide, so this is like… a HUGE deal.
Reports that Sabrina is set to relaunch broke back in September after Buzzfeed announced that Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa was leading the project to be called The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. He then tweeted a photo just weeks later implying that he was casting for the roles of Sabrina and her human boyfriend Harvey, writing QUOTE, “Perfect project for October as the #Riverdale family expands…”
Naturally, Selena Gomez fans have quickly jumped to the conclusion that she’ll be resurrecting her magic powers from The Wizards of Waverly Place, along with the fact that her new blonde hair was done specifically for the role after one twitter account pointed out that she opened up about never wanting to dye her hair unless it was for a movie role.
Other speculation as to who will be up for the part went to Disney’s Descendants star Dove Cameron when she posted a cryptic photo to Instagram of the original Sabrina cartoon series months ago. Fans jumped on the idea that Dove would be making a cameo on Riverdale in the coming seasons as witches are likely to become introduced into the storyline, but unfortunately this rumor also has no truth to it just yet.
Many others think that Dove may be playing Sabrina Spellman on Riverdale, and Selena will be portraying Sabrina in the spinoff series, but something tells us we’ve got a while until any official news is announced, because according to Agguire-Sacasa, introducing such a major character, let alone a supernatural like Sabrina, into the Riverdale plot would be tricky, and may overshadow everything else they had planned.
Regardless, it doesn’t seem like the idea is completely off the table, so we’re still holding out hope for Sabrina to make her grand TV return once again.
