The walls have officially come down, and this is one side of Zayn you’ve never seen before.
The cancelled appearances, the false excuses and the excessive stage fright have all been contributing factors in Zayn Malik’s rough battle with anxiety as told in his forthcoming self-titled book.
The singer recalls the details surrounding his recent cancelled performances since leaving One Direction, saying QUOTE, “I just couldn’t go through with it. Mentally, the anxiety had won. Physically, I knew I couldn’t function. I would have to pull out.”
He also went onto say that he eventually became tired of having to release false statements and excuses for cancelling his appearances, which eventually lead to even more false rumors being spread, however Zayn also revealed that he’s fully aware of the repercussions of his decisions, writing, “All sorts of stories were flying around afterward. All I’d say is: Always take everything you read online with a pinch of salt. I found it really frustrating that, even now that I was being upfront about what the issue was, some people still found reasons to doubt it. But that’s the industry.”
Zayn also admitted he struggled with the mental illness as a member of 1D, but it was performing as a solo artist when he began feeling much more vulnerable. In opening up about the disease that affects millions, Zayn strives to bring awareness to his fans, and give them a sense of relatability, saying QUOTE, “Anxiety is nothing to be ashamed of; it affects millions of people every day. I know I have fans out there who have been through this kind of thing, too, and I wanted to be honest for their sake, if nothing else.”
Zayn’s book titled Zayn is set to be released tomorrow, so be sure to get your hands on a copy STAT, but for right now, I’m curious to hear all your thoughts on Zayn’s vulnerability with opening up about his anxiety, so get to talking right down here in the comments.
