The 2016 VMA nominations are here so you know we’ve got you covered with the highlights of who’s in the running for a potential moon man.
It’s time for the MTV Video Music Awards once again and my girl Beyonce is leading the pack.
After the release of her visual masterpiece, Lemonade, it should come as no surprise that Beyonce is sitting at the top of the nomination hierarchy with 11 total nominations. Adele is not far behind her with eight nominations and as if the competition wasn’t already stiff enough, Adele and Beyonce will be going head to head for Video of The Year with “Hello” and “Formation” nominated alongside Drake’s “Hotline Bling, Justin Bieber’s “Sorry,” and Kanye’s infamous “Famous” video.
Lots of competition in the Best Female Video category as well with Sia’s “Cheap Thrills,” Ariana Grande for “Into You,” Rihanna’s “Work, as well as Beyonce and Adele. And although the Best Male Video category caught a break by not having to compete with Adele or Beyonce, their category is still pretty tight. The nominees for Best Male Video include Drake, Bryson Tiller, Calvin Harris, and the Weekend. Some are surprised to find that Justin Bieber did not land a spot in the Best Male Vid category but not to worry Belieber’s because he snag a handful of other nominations including Best Pop Video for “Sorry.” The Best Collaborations category is also full of bangers including Beyonce & Kendrick for “Freedom,” Fifth Harmony & Ty Dolla Sign for “Work From Home” Ariana Grande & lil Wayne for “Let Me Love You” Calvin Harris and RiRi for “This Is What You Came For” and Rihanna again this time with Drake for “Work.”
The VMA’s never fail to entertain and produce some prime meme-able moments. Who could forget last year when Nicki Minaj asked Miley what’s good before Kanye promised that he’d be running for president in 2020. What will happen this year when the show airs on August 28th? The possibilities are endless but I want to hear what YOU guys think about the list of nominees in the comment section below, don’t forget to subscribe, and then click right over here to see which summer jam came out on top on Debatable. Thanks for watching Clevver News, I’m Drew Dorsey and I’ll see you next time.
