Voting for the 2016 American Music Awards are underway and you won’t believe who’s leading the pack with the most nominations.
Michael Jackson may have held the record for the most AMA nominations in a single year, but consider that record broken by the one and only Drake.
The nominations have been tallied and in a not so surprising turn of events, Drake is leading the pack this year with a total of 13 nominations – that’s two more than MJ’s previous record of 11. Following closely behind Drake’s whopping 13 nominations is his partner in crime, Rihanna, with seven noms, and Adele and Justin came in last with five each.
Even though all of the artists in the lead are all up for the Artist of the Year award against each other, it’s still going to be a really tough competition. Drizzy, RiRi, Adele, and Justin are in the running against Beyonce, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Twenty One Pilots, Carrie Underwood, and The Weeknd for the ultimate award of the night.
During the announcement on GMA, both Rachel Platten and Joe Jonas learned of their own respective nominations and hugged it out on national TV.
How adorbs! And speaking of DNCE, the group also earned a nomination in the New Artist of the Year Un-Leased by T-Mobile category against Zayn, Alessia Cara, The Chainsmokers, and Shawn Mendes, which brings their total number of nominations up to two. Not too shabby for the pop group.
Fifth Harmony managed to grab one nomination this year for their hit song ‘Work from Home’ with Ty Dolla $ign. ‘Work from Home’ is up for Collaboration of the Year against The Chainsmokers and Daya’s ‘Don’t Let Me Down,’ Drake and Wizkid & Kyla’s ‘One Dance,’ Rihanna and Drake’s ‘Work,’ and last but not least, Meghan Trainor and John Legend’s ‘Like I’m Gonna Lose You.’
Adele, Justin Bieber, and Drake, are all in the running for ‘Favorite Album – Pop/Rock’ and are up against each other again in the ‘Favorite Song – Pop/Rock’ category. To check out the rest of the nominees and vote for your faves, head right on over to theamas.com.
