2017 MTV VMAs Nominations Announced: Ariana Grande, Kendrick Lamar & MORE

Kendrick Lamar, Katy Perry, and The Weeknd all lead the pack when it comes to most nominations. Kendrick got a whopping eight nominations for his "HUMBLE" music video, meanwhile Katy and The Weeknd are tied with five noms each. This year MTV is opting to combine the Best Female Video and Best Male Video categories into one “Artist of the Year” award, proving that the network is making big steps to favor non-gendered categories.
In addition to Kendrick, Katy, and The Weeknd, nominees also include Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran, Chance the Rapper and Miley Cyrus.
Kendrick, Bruno, DJ Khaled, The Weeknd, and Alessia Cara will all duke it out for the Video of the Year award, meanwhile Kendrick, Bruno, Lorde, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, and The Weeknd are all up for the prestigious Artist of the Year award. Those artists are all so different I honestly have no idea how anyone could choose between them!
Zayn and Taylor got a nod for Best Collaboration for their 50 Shades Darker anthem, “I don’t wanna live forever”, so here’s to hoping we’ll finally get to see Tay back on the red carpet after a long, self-imposed hiatus from the public eye. She and Zayn are going up against Selena Gomez and Charlie Puth for “We Don’t Talk Anymore”, as well as Calvin Harris, Katy Perry, Big Sean, and Pharrell Williams for “Feels”--so maybe this is the chance for Taylor and Katy to hug it out on the red carpet for once and for all!
In the Best pop category Shawn Mendes, Miley Cyrus, Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry, Harry Styles, and 5th Harmony are all nominated--talk about some tough competition in these categories, am I right?! Meanwhile Chance, Kendrick, Migos, DRAM, Big Sean and DJ Khaled are all battling it out in the Best Hip Hop category.
Okay no matter who wins or loses that night, you KNOW those performances are gonna be LIT! The MTV VMAs air Sunday August 27th at 8pm, so set those DVRs ASAP!
