The nominations for the 2017 American Music Awards are officially here, and now it’s time to start guessing which of your favorite artists are going to completely steal the show!
Ciara appeared on Good Morning America this morning and filled us in on a bunch of this year’s nominees, and we’re not going to lie… the competition is looking FIERCE.
Let’s jump right in, shall we? Well, for starters, Bruno Mars is leading the pack with a whopping 8 nominations, but let’s not act like we’re surprised… Bruno has been travelling the world on his super successful “24K Magic World Tour,” and he even opened up last year’s ceremony with an unforgettable performance of the hit single! So, yeah… we can’t say we weren’t warned.
The biggest award of the night is always “Artist of the Year,” and is it just us, or is this category missing some serious female star power? Anyways, Bruno Mars, The Chainsmokers, Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Ed Sheeran will all be going head-to-head for this one, and we honestly can’t even begin to guess who’s going to take it home!
Even though the reality is that four of those artists will walk away without the “Artist of the Year” award, they all have a chance to win in other categories as well! Drake, who broke records last year with a dizzying 13 noms, was nominated for 5 AMA’s this year, tying up with The Weeknd, The Chainsmokers, and of course, Ed Sheeran. And let’s not forget Kendrick Lamar, who followed close behind with an impressive 4 nominations of his own.
And if you’re wondering which songs have made their impact this year, the nominations don’t lie. “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber is nominated in three separate categories, including “Collaboration of the Year,” “Favorite Pop/Rock Song,” and “Video of the Year.”
And not so surprisingly, some of our other favorites are up for awards this year too, including Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Sam Hunt, Shawn Mendes, Alessia Cara, and WAY more! Be sure to head over to theamas.com to check out the rest of the nominees and to vote for your faves!
