While all of the presenters did a great job this year, we have to give a few shoutouts to those who really made us laugh, smile, and even scratch our heads. First off we’ve got to give it up to Steve Carell and Tina Fey for never failing to make us laugh, which they did, thanks to Steve joking about Tina being drunk during their presentation for the Best Production Design Award.
Hey if we had to present an award in front of millions of home viewers, we’d be a little drunk too. You’re forever our spirit animal, Tina. Another moment that was just too good to be true was when the Minions presented for Best Animated Short Film, and, in full Minion-disaster fashion, things did not go as planned.
Thank goodness they gave us subtitles because I don’t think anyone watching the Oscars has mastered the Minion language just yet. In another animated surprise, Woody and Buzz celebrated 20 years of Toy Story by presenting the award for Best Animated Feature to Inside/Out.
If there was an Oscar for “Most Nostalgic Moment at the Oscars”, Woody and Buzz would have won it hands down. Thank goodness they made their bit funny because otherwise we’d all have been crying.
Another of our favorite presenter moments is when Kevin Hart came on stage and gave a moving speech about Hollywood’s diversity problem before introducing The Weeknd’s performance.
It was a powerful and inspiring moment that touched everyone in the room and watching. Kevin finished off his presenter speech with a few laughs, joking that while he was expecting to get a front row seat at the award show this year, at least he got to wear a suit with shiny stuff on it. Now that’s looking on the bright side of things--literally.
The next moment we’ve gotta call out is Louis CK’s hilarious presenting speech for the Best Documentary Short award, where the comedian joked that unlike most of the very wealthy nominees in other categories, no one in this category was making bank for their work...
Louis jokingly announced that Mad Max was the winner before giving the award to the real recipient, The Girl in the River. His entire presentation was so funny we’re already gunning for him to co-host next year with Kevin Hart. How awesome would that be?
And last but not least of the best presenter moments, the most adorable presenting pair of the night was definitely Room’s Jacob Tremblay and Beasts of No Nation’s Abraham Attah, who were both just a little too short to reach the microphone. Luckily Chris Rock came to the rescue with some apple boxes for the boys to stand on.
Okay, forget what I said about Louis CK and Kevin Hart presenting next year. Now I want Jacob and Abraham to host every awards show forever. Who’s with me?
