We’re doing a deep dive into the best food of Northcote town centre- a hidden gem of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s food scene. Today we’re going behind the scenes of a bustling Malaysian kitchen- Songket Malaysian Cafe which churns out favourites like nasi goreng and mee goreng. We discover Yong’s Hand Pulled Noodles specialising in fresh hand pulled noodles from Lanzhou, China before capping off the day with a steaming bowl of belly warming pho at Hai Phong. We’re hunting down Auckland’s best eats, hit subscribe and get ready for some mouthwatering food.

What we ate and where we ate it:

1. Mee goreng mamak, nasi goreng kampung, sate ayam, char kay teow at Songket Malaysian Cafe, 6/10 Kilham Avenue, Northcote, Auckland 0627. Open Tuesday to Thursday and Saturday to Sunday 11:00am to 9:00pm and Friday 3:00pm to 9:00pm. Closed Monday.

2. Lanzhou noodles with soybean paste, braised beef noodle soup and spicy chicken noodles at Yong’s Hand Pulled Noodles, 15 Pearn Crescent, Northcote, Auckland 0627. Open 7 days, 11:00am to 2:30pm and 4:30pm to 9:00pm.

3. Pho tai (rare beef pho) at Hai Phong, 29 Pearn Crescent, Northcote, Auckland 0627. Open 7 days, 11:00am to 9:00pm.
