Get Out Wins Best Original Screenplay At Oscars & Here's Why Jordan Peele's Win Is HISTORIC

Congratulations to Jordan Peele! As only the fourth black person to be nominated for Best Original Screenplay in this case for Get Out, tonight Peele became the first black winner of the award in Oscar history. In an emotional speech following a standing O, the actor-writer admitted that his Oscar winning film almost didn’t happen.
He continued, QUOTE “I thought it wasn’t gonna work, I thought no one would ever make this movie, But I kept coming back to it because I knew if someone let me make this movie, then people would hear it and people would see it.” And that we did, of course. This film was undoubtedly a fan favorite, beating out The Big Sick, Lady Bird, The Shape of Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri in the same category. Jordan made sure to send love to his whole tribe that supported his passion project… especially his wife. QUOTE “To the cast and crew, I love you, thank you so much. My wife, who supported me through this whole process. My mother, who taught me to love even in the face of hate. And to everybody who went and saw this movie. Everybody who bought a ticket, told somebody to buy a ticket, thank you. I love you for shouting out at the theater, for shouting out at the screen. I love all, thank you so much.” Nope, thank YOU, Jordan. I’ll never view ‘meeting the parents’ the parents in quite the same way. Also, this tweet he sent out is priceless. “I just won an Oscar.
