This Sunday marked one of America’s most beloved holidays – Of course we’re talking about the Super bowl… And while the Football occupies a good fraction of our attention… MOST of us tuned in to see our girl Katy Perry light up the Halftime Show.
Welcome back to Clevver News guys, In case you missed Katy Perry’s half time show, which I know you probably didn’t, don’t even worry because we’ve got you covered!
So first off, Pepsi reminded everyone that they paid for everything We Were about to see by illuminating their logo on the field with glow lanterns, but THEN Katy Graced the stage by Making QUITE the entrance as she kicked things off with “Roar” riding in on this huge animatronic tiger that was all kinds of awesome. She slowly made her way through an aisle of lanterns while wearing a very Katy inspired fire dress.
She then dropped that Dark Horse beat and was surrounded by dancers in these cool metallic mosaic outfits, but really, the shock factor part of the performance was thanks in large part to the projection mapping on the floor that first gave a checkered illusion before making it appear as though the dancers were standing on isolated sections of the ground, that slowly transitioned into a swirling void that was synched perfectly with Katy asking everyone if they were ready for “a perfect storm.” Okay, Dark Horse reference!
A few moments later Lenny Kravitz was in the house belting out a rock version of “I Kissed a Girl.” Katy sang her little heart out whippin’ the crap out of that ponytail she was rockin’ and can I just say that between Lenny Kravits, Katy’s Fire dress, and the excessive pyrotechnics behind them… The spirit of the Hunger Games Catching Fire was in full effect.
Following her jam session with Lenny, Katy went into “Teenage Dream” complete with mobile palm trees, surfboards, beach balls, and sharks. Oh and they all had eyeballs because well…Katy. This section marked Katy’s first wardrobe change that consisted of a matching crop top and skirt, that could have easily been mistaken for a beach ball Bra top IN a hot dog ON a stick colors… In the most glamorous possible way, I swear!
And naturally… Where there are beach balls, there’s Katy singing “California Girls.” For the golden coast section, the projections on the floor made it look as though Katy was chillin’ on an island at the beach surrounded by water. And of course California Girls wouldn’t be complete without girls in retro polka dot bikinis.
Okay… Holy crap I didn’t know there was going to be a Missy Elliot concert in the middle… Missy busted out with a fulfilling throwback medley joined by Katy wearing an oversized jersey.
Katy closed her performance singing “Firework” decorated in a star dress while ascending over the field as a shooting star that gave everyone “the more you know” flashbacks. The projections went TO town making fireworks spark from her feet joined by a full on Disney firework show atop the stadium.
I’m convinced she’s a fairy godmother.
